About the Role

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to students with special needs, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Student Education Planning: Collaborate with parents, department team members, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Learning Support: Provide tailored instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation services to students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Curriculum Design: Design instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, ensuring students with special needs have equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues through effective communication, active listening, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Record Keeping and Data Analysis: Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, tracking progress, and analyzing data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions.
  • Mentorship and Professional Development: Support and mentor teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities, promoting a culture of continuous learning and growth.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment (preferred)
  • Specialized Training: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching, Standard Secondary Teaching, and Standard Special Teaching (preferred)
  • Endorsements: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement (preferred)
  • Professional Standards: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Additional Requirements: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program (when applicable), Current CPR (if applicable), TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray (if applicable), Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation), and meet all federal, state, and local requirements
