The Medical Science Liaison (MSL)/Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) is responsible for fostering relationships with healthcare professionals through high-level scientific discussions regarding the clinical applications and scientific background of specific products within our portfolio. This role provides essential support to clinical development teams and investigators engaged in clinical trials, while also offering scientific assistance to internal teams. MSLs/Sr. MSLs are expected to engage with and deliver value to a range of internal (R&D, Sales, and Marketing) and external stakeholders, showcasing leadership skills and adhering to compliance protocols. The MSL/Sr. MSL serves as a credible and valuable representative of Idorsia Pharmaceuticals in various interactions with key opinion leaders (KOLs) across their designated region.

Territory encompasses the western United States, focusing on states such as California, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington. The ideal candidate will reside in California, though other western states will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and nurture relationships with healthcare professionals, providing them with credible, unbiased scientific information about Idorsia and its offerings, as well as insights into research initiatives and product development, while being attuned to their perspectives and challenges in patient care.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to create and implement comprehensive and dynamic territory strategies that align with the molecule, its lifecycle, and the therapeutic area.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the therapeutic area and product, demonstrated through ongoing literature review, participation in scientific conferences, internal training, and competitive intelligence gathering.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, including KOL and site profiling, and education both internally and externally, which will be a primary focus of this role.
  • Support the medical affairs team in identifying potential investigators and research initiatives, which may involve assisting with investigator-sponsored trial processes and site recruitment strategies.
  • Provide reports on observations, insights, and feedback obtained through interactions with healthcare professionals and scientific activities within the territory.
  • Address unsolicited scientific inquiries from healthcare professionals by integrating scientific data and utilizing approved materials to comprehensively meet their needs.
  • Develop strong collaborative and strategic partnerships with field coalitions.
  • For Sr. MSL: Mentor new MSLs during their onboarding process, ensuring they effectively manage their responsibilities within the initial 30, 60, and 90 days.
  • For Sr. MSL: Collaborate with new MSLs to enhance their understanding of the MSL role at Idorsia and the technical knowledge required for effective healthcare professional engagement.
  • For Sr. MSL: Assist in identifying and conducting internal training sessions and communications within the US Medical Affairs team, contributing to the development of training materials.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • MSL: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison engaging KOLs is required, with a preference for experience in Neurology, CNS, or sleep fields. Clinical experience in the sleep domain will also be considered.
  • Sr. MSL: Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison engaging KOLs specifically in Neurology, CNS, or sleep.
  • Must possess a valid US driver's license (driving record verification will be conducted during onboarding).

Physical Requirements:

  • This role requires driving as part of standard job responsibilities to facilitate external stakeholder engagement, necessitating extensive travel (up to 50-70% on average, subject to business needs).
  • Flexibility in working hours is required based on travel and job-related activities, which may vary according to role demands.
  • Occasional physical activities include reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling.
  • Frequent activities include repetitive motions (typing), talking, and hearing, with typical light work requirements, including occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds and close visual acuity for detailed document reading.
  • This position involves significant face-to-face interaction with customers, necessitating current COVID-19 vaccination status.
