About This Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a Traffic Engineer to enhance our dynamic transportation practice. In this role, you will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary environment, working alongside planning, environmental, civil engineering, and roadway design teams.

This position involves providing technical expertise and support for the analysis, enhancement, planning, engineering, design, and operation of roadways and highways, their networks, adjacent land uses, and their interaction with various transportation modes and terminals. Responsibilities may include conducting capacity analyses, reviewing permits, and assisting in the design, conceptual development, and construction of roadways, traffic patterns, and signal design and timing. You will be responsible for generating precise and comprehensive reports and documentation regarding construction specifications, ensuring that all responsibilities are met with a quality that aligns with industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Contributions

  • Gather, compile, and analyze data from various sources, including physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, maps, and technical data for project development, design, and construction.
  • Conduct professional traffic engineering work and assist in investigating and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
  • Engage in advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operational strategies to enhance safety and functionality for end-users and transportation systems, incorporating future-ready solutions in traffic engineering design.
  • Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assist in roadway layout, establish reference points, calculate costs and quantities of materials, and ensure compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance on traffic engineering studies, capacity analyses, traffic complaint investigations, signal system design, and operations analysis to ensure roadways are designed safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct traffic counts to analyze roadway and intersection traffic volumes, origins, destinations, and types of traffic.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior traffic design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Familiarity with DOT advisory circulars and procedures.
  • Understanding of traffic engineering principles, practices, processes, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity analysis, project management, and communications systems.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, manage multiple tasks, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, technology, mathematical principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, and other relevant design software.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge effectively.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
