We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to serve as the internal expert on controls for a variety of projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of electrical and control philosophies, particularly in relation to different PLCs and subsystems. This position requires both independent work and collaboration within a team environment. Responsibilities include aiding in the design and development of systems to meet contract specifications and collaborating with various departments on the design, procurement, and installation of the systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define project scope and design control systems and instrumentation according to client specifications.
  • Program control systems as necessary.
  • Engage with clients, vendors, and project teams to ensure alignment and quality.
  • Conduct technical design reviews with interdisciplinary teams to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Adhere to safety standards and practices established by EAD.
  • Stay informed about customer-specific electrical and control specifications and industry standards.
  • Review complex project requirements and mechanical layouts to design control system architecture.
  • Oversee the selection and procurement of electrical components and create project BOMs.
  • Collaborate with panel fabricators for control cabinet design and implementation.
  • Prepare electrical sections for project maintenance manuals.
  • Ensure adherence to project budgets and prepare cost analyses.
  • Evaluate new technologies and electrical components for improved functionality.
  • Maintain and update engineering procedures and tools.
  • Provide engineering support for field startup personnel.
  • Generate cost estimates for proposed projects.
  • Create necessary documentation for the sales process and proposals.
  • Participate in customer consultations and sales presentations.
  • Develop Request for Proposal packages for equipment and service suppliers.

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills for effective decision-making.
  • Experience in HMI or SCADA programming with software such as Wonderware or Rockwell.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and control systems.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and scripting/programming languages.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Proficient in relevant electrical codes and standards.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in automation and electrical controls.
  • Knowledge of industry codes such as NEC and NFPA.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and client site environments.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Physical demands may include climbing stairs and working in tight spaces.
  • Potential exposure to mechanical parts and industrial settings.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Travel may be required as necessary.
