The SSD Formulation team encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including power systems, simulation and environmental analysis, thermal and fluid management, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), autonomy, command and control, data handling and instrumentation, electrical integration and avionics, and propulsion. A key responsibility of this role will be to deploy this multidisciplinary team to support various projects, studies, and programs in a fast-paced design environment, while also contributing your technical expertise as an individual contributor. Our Formulation group employs an agile methodology to swiftly tackle early-stage design work through a series of three-week sprints. Success in this position requires embracing a proactive culture and delivering results efficiently. The decisions made in the early stages will be crucial for Blue Origin's long-term success and will require comfort with uncertainty and the ability to navigate challenges effectively.

We seek an individual who can leverage their technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and dedication to support our Blue Horizon vision. A passion for our mission and vision is essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in thermal analysis and thermal response tools such as Thermal Desktop/Sinda Fluint and Ansys.
  • Experience in developing models and performing post-processing using Matlab and Python.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft thermal control systems and the thermal environments encountered in space.
  • Understanding of mission design parameters that influence thermal control system requirements and design.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts and challenges to other engineering disciplines to facilitate effective decision-making.
  • Experience collaborating directly with system and design engineers.
  • Capacity to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the design and analysis of spacecraft radiators and associated subsystems.
  • Experience in setting up test fixtures to evaluate the performance of thermal control systems.
  • Experience with the design and analysis of pumped fluid loop systems.
  • Experience with heat pipe design, analysis, and vehicle integration.
