Manufacturing Engineer - Spacecraft Assembly

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Manufacturing Engineer - Spacecraft Assembly, you'll play a critical role in translating engineering intent into fully functional spacecraft hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create build and flow documents to ensure efficient production processes
  • Identify tooling needs required for production and develop solutions to meet those needs
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate and up-to-date information
  • Author work instructions to ensure clear and concise guidance for production personnel
  • Perform engineering drawing reviews and provide final approval for manufacturing to ensure compliance with engineering intent
  • Ensure build readiness by coordinating with cross-functional teams to resolve any issues that may impact production
  • Provide shipside/lineside support to production personnel to ensure smooth and efficient production processes
  • Participate in anomaly investigations, root cause/corrective action analyses, and development/implementation of recovery plans to ensure continuous improvement
  • Generate and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) to ensure prompt and effective resolution of production issues
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, automotive, or similar
  • Extensive experience in a manufacturing engineering capacity in one or more of the following areas: Vehicle Integration, Instrumentation, Structures, Harnesses, Avionics, GN&C, Thermal Protection, or Test
  • Extensive experience with new product development
  • Proven ability to mentor manufacturing engineers with less experience
  • Demonstrated ownership in your area of responsibility
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing, including working knowledge of GD&T
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Ability to develop processes compliant with industry quality systems such as AS9100
  • Customer-focused with a proven ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Ability to support scheduled work shift (we may rotate shifts occasionally) and work off-shift (2nd or 3rd shifts), extended hours, and weekends if/when vital
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, or similar) from an accredited college or university
  • Extensive experience identifying tooling needs for production
  • Proficient in writing work instructions at a high pace
  • 10-12+ years manufacturing engineering experience
