Job Title: Water Resource Professional II

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Resource Professional II to join our team at the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED). As a key member of our Ground Water Quality Bureau (GWQB), you will play a critical role in protecting and restoring the environment for present and future generations.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting New Mexico communities experiencing water scarcity issues with the development and implementation of wastewater reuse projects. You will provide technical and regulatory support, including the issuance of applicable groundwater discharge permits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement reuse guidance documents, policies, and regulations to ensure safe and sustainable wastewater reuse practices.
  • Assess and provide recommendations for assisting communities with reuse projects, operations, and closure of domestic, industrial, and wastewater reuse facilities.
  • Review discharge permit applications and treatment facility operations and closure plans.
  • Inspect facilities and oversee corrective actions and abatement plans.
  • Maintain organized and regularly updated paper and electronic files for each assigned discharge permit and abatement plan.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Emergency Management, or Engineering.
  • Two years of relevant experience or any combination of education and experience totaling six years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Working Conditions:

This position requires extensive personal computer and phone usage, with some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. In-state travel, including some overnight travel, is required. Outdoor field work is necessary in all types of weather conditions.
