Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our team at Advocate Health. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring a smooth and efficient patient registration process, while providing exceptional customer service to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets and checks in patients, ensuring accurate and complete patient information.
  • Completes the registration process for walk-in patients, verifying and updating demographic and insurance information as needed.
  • Verifies insurance benefits, calculates patient responsibility, and requests payment.
  • Identifies patients in need of financial assistance and refers them to the Financial Advocate.
  • Monitors patient flow to ensure efficient and courteous care.
  • Schedules patient visits according to established guidelines.
  • Assists with new caregiver onboarding and maintains knowledge of insurance plans and requirements.
  • Works assigned EPIC work queues and maintains excellent public relations with patients, families, and clinical staff.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in customer service or clerical/office experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and understand issues, examine data, and draw logical conclusions.
  • Mathematical aptitude, effective communication skills, and critical thinking skills.
  • Understanding of basic human anatomy, medical terminology, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, speak effectively to customers or employees, and handle sensitive and confidential information.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, squat, and bend frequently, as well as twist, rotate, and kneel occasionally.
  • Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lifts between 20 lbs. or more.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must have functional speech and hearing, and be able to use hands with fine motor skills for keyboard data entry.
