Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Service Supervisor to join our team at Advocate Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all daily operations of the department and the food program(s), ensuring quality therapeutic appropriateness and adequate cost to value ratios.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage food preparation for patient tray assembly and delivery, and distribute food and supplies to ancillary areas.
  • Develop and implement menus to ensure quality, therapeutic appropriateness, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Direct and coordinate the development of menus, including retail operations and modified menu choices.
  • Prepare instructional material for training and development of staff, and conduct in-service education.
  • Train employees in responsibilities such as food preparation, sanitation standards, and cashiering.
  • Initiate and maintain outside vendor contracts, including evaluating pricing terms and negotiating contracts.
  • Generate statistical reports, analyze data, and track trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures, including tray-line, production, and procurement.
  • Maintain food service safety programs, conduct regular safety inspections, and accurately document and investigate accidents.
  • Establish quality standards for customer satisfaction and develop corrective action plans based on survey feedback.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive HACCP program to achieve high levels of sanitation and compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for cost-effectiveness, including monitoring cash register balance sheets and daily sales, evaluating equipment specifications, and conducting periodic inventories.
  • Perform human resources responsibilities for staff, including coaching on performance, completing performance reviews, and overall staff morale.
Requirements
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification issued by the National Restaurant Association within 1 year.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in food service operations and food preparation, including service techniques, cashiering, and sanitation standards.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar products, electronic mail, and Internet.
  • Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers/staff.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Self-directed, organized, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform arithmetic calculations.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job, including flight-type dish-machines, forklifts, and roto equipment. The candidate must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. from floor to a maximum 5 ft., lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance, and push/pull with 20 lbs. of force. The working atmosphere ranges from varying temperatures and contains fumes, odors, dust/dirt, spices, etc. Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
