Communications Director Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Director to lead our Division of Information Technology's communication efforts. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating innovative strategies to elevate our brands, engage our audiences, and drive impactful change.

About the Job
  • Develop and implement proactive communication plans to drive engagement and resonate with internal and external audiences.
  • Act as a Brand Ambassador, shaping and representing the voice of our Division, ensuring brand alignment and recognition across the University.
  • Create high-quality content and edit highly visible communications, including digital campaigns, newsletters, press releases, and reports.
  • Build and foster relationships with customers to address their needs and concerns through effective communication.
  • Provide analysis and valuable insights through impactful graphics and storytelling, utilizing data-driven insights to measure communication effectiveness.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership, guiding team members with mentorship while fostering a collaborative, creative work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise support staff teams, including hiring, leading, mentoring, and training.
  • Recruit and manage student employees to aid with daily operations of divisional communications.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to support staff to ensure high-quality work and professional growth.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of support staff in current communication tools and best practices.
Requirements
  • Requires a bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, English or another related field.
  • Experience with information technology terminology and experience in a higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to partner senior leadership and University Communications to establish clear and effective communication objectives.
  • Experience providing communications counsel to senior leadership on issues and projects impacting diverse audiences.
  • Skilled in serving as a senior communicator and unit web leader, managing web content and ensuring all duties and responsibilities align with university communication standards.
