Job Summary:

The Phlebotomy Procedural Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering training programs for phlebotomy services across the Bozeman Health System. This includes training new hires, annual competencies, and on-demand training in response to equipment changes, regulatory updates, and customer feedback. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in phlebotomy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement training programs for phlebotomy services, including new hire orientation and annual competencies.
  • Provide education and training to Bozeman Health employees on phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
  • Participate in quality management of phlebotomy services, including monitoring and improving processes and procedures.
  • Update and maintain phlebotomy policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Bozeman Health policies, procedures, protocols, and state and federal regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform phlebotomy services, including collecting blood specimens via venipuncture in various inpatient and outpatient settings.
Requirements:

  • Associates degree in science or related field; equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Two years of related laboratory/phlebotomy experience.
  • Customer service experience in a healthcare or retail setting.
  • Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in MT, CLS, or Laboratory Science.
  • ASCP or equivalent Phlebotomy Certification.
  • Urine Drug Screen Collection Certification (DOT) and Breath Alcohol Testing Certification (DOT).
Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling: support 50 pounds of weight, lift 50 pounds, and carry equipment/supplies.
  • Extended hours: work for extended periods, requiring sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.
  • Flexible schedule: work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call availability: be available to respond to organizational and patient needs promptly.
  • Effective communication: proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies.
  • Handling challenging situations: deal with upset individuals, requiring the ability to de-escalate situations and work effectively with frustrated patients or families.
  • Repetitive tasks: perform repetitive tasks as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.

  • Bloodborne pathogens, such as blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
  • Radiation in settings where medical imaging procedures are performed.
  • Various chemicals and medications used in healthcare settings.
  • Infectious diseases due to contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses.
  • Emotionally challenging situations, such as dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
