Job Overview


The Clinical Staff Pharmacist is accountable for overseeing the medication management process, which includes prescribing, dispensing, administering, and monitoring medications within the healthcare facility. This role requires the application of fundamental knowledge regarding pharmaceuticals and therapeutic practices to enhance patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess medication orders and accurately input them into the patient's pharmacy profile. Analyze the suitability of therapies while screening for potential drug interactions, allergies, therapeutic duplications, age-appropriate dosing, and other contraindications relevant to the practice environment.
  • Dispense medications with the necessary labeling and prepare both sterile and non-sterile compounds as required.
  • Participate in emergency response situations, such as cardiac arrests, in accordance with the practice setting.
  • Utilize appropriate resources to deliver drug-related information to physicians and other healthcare professionals affiliated with the institution.
  • Provide clinical services as designated by the department.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and engage in their performance evaluation and development.
  • Stay informed about the latest literature and advancements in the pharmacy field.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


For positions involving direct patient interaction, the employee must acquire and demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver age-appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as specified by the department's patient demographics.

Specifically, the employee should exhibit proficiency in: 1) gathering and interpreting information based on patient needs; 2) understanding growth and development; and 3) recognizing the treatment spectrum required by patients.

Competency Requirements Must show competency through initial orientation and ongoing validation to independently execute tasks and additional responsibilities as outlined in the job description and the specific competency checklist for the unit/department.

General Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain and document all required educational credentials.

2. Exhibit positive customer service and collaborative relationships with colleagues.

3. Adhere to the company's attendance policies.

4. Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department and organization.

5. Conduct work in a cost-effective manner.

6. Follow all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shifts, and on-call duties.

7. Align work with the overall mission and strategic objectives of the organization.

8. Comply with organizational and departmental policies and procedures as applicable.

9. Perform related tasks as assigned.


Educational Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (Required)
Licensure Requirements

  • Licensed Pharmacist (Required)
  • Basic Life Support Certification (Required) within 30 days of employment
