Oncology Clinical Pharmacist

The Oncology Clinical Pharmacist will oversee and execute a comprehensive Oncology Pharmacy service, delivering the scientific expertise and professional judgment necessary to enhance and safeguard health through the secure and effective use of chemotherapy agents for patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver thorough pharmaceutical care to patients, ensuring safe and effective medication therapy. Exhibit independent decision-making, clinical judgment, and extensive knowledge of oncology and therapeutics. Establish and maintain a clinical practice in collaboration with medical and nursing staff to achieve optimal drug therapy for cancer patients. Provide education and counseling related to medication to patients, families, and caregivers. Aid in the selection of pharmacologic agents and the design of treatment regimens to maximize therapeutic outcomes while minimizing adverse effects. Recommend adjustments to drug regimens based on clinical and toxicological endpoints, communicating these recommendations clearly.
- Keep a comprehensive and accessible record of each patient's chemotherapy regimen, dosages, and relevant clinical and laboratory data. Offer drug and clinical information to healthcare professionals regarding emerging issues in cancer patient care. Engage in quality assurance initiatives and participate in committees, including those focused on Oncology Formulary selection. Assist in the management of high-cost chemotherapy and biological therapies. Provide clinical education and training to pharmacy students, practicing pharmacists, and residents.
- Synthesize new information with existing knowledge to formulate clinical recommendations. Develop and uphold operational protocols and procedures in compliance with regulations and guidelines. Oversee the procurement, receipt, and storage of medications. Responsible for compounding, dispensing, and labeling chemotherapy products for patients. Maintain educational requirements as mandated by departmental and institutional standards. Document all activities appropriately and demonstrate positive customer service and collaborative relationships.
Knowledge of patient demographics is essential for positions involving direct patient interaction. The employee must possess the necessary knowledge and skills to provide appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's patient age criteria.
