Position Overview

Lane County Behavioral Health is seeking passionate Peer Support Specialists to become integral members of our Mobile Crisis Service of Lane County (MCS-LC) team. This initiative aims to enhance support for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises throughout the county.


In this role, you will collaborate with a qualified mental health associate to respond to service requests in both rural and urban settings. Your primary responsibility will be to assist individuals in crisis by providing de-escalation techniques, emotional support, resource connection, and transportation for further care. The ideal candidate will possess a background in offering peer support to those facing serious mental health challenges or substance use disorders, helping them navigate barriers and improve their quality of life. Utilizing the peer support model, you will inspire hope and provide encouragement.

We are looking for dedicated individuals who are solution-oriented, passionate about service, and eager to connect with those in need. Registration as an Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist with the Oregon Health Authority is a requirement for this position.

About Our Division

Lane County Behavioral Health serves over 1,600 individuals with various behavioral health needs. We collaborate with community partners to deliver a comprehensive care continuum, from prevention to treatment and aftercare, fostering an environment that promotes resilience and recovery.


Work Schedule

Shifts will typically run from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on varied days, with initial schedules set for Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday. As the program expands to provide 24-hour coverage, there will be opportunities for variable shifts. This role may require overtime and non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with community-based work and travel involved.


Training and Experience Requirements
  • Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least six months of experience as a peer advocate within a mental health system.
  • Experience in facilitating group discussions and participating in committees is preferred.

Special Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist in the State of Oregon.
  • Registered as an Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist THW (Traditional Health Care Worker) through the Oregon Health Authority.
  • Completion of 40-Hour Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist Training & Certification.
  • Submission of transcripts, NPI, diploma, and resume for credentialing purposes.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of application and obtain a valid Oregon driver's license by the time of appointment.

Peer Support Specialist Qualifications:

  • Must be a self-identified individual currently or formerly receiving mental health services; OR
  • A self-identified individual in recovery from a substance use disorder, meeting the abstinence requirements for staff in alcohol and drug treatment programs; OR
  • A family member of someone who is a current or former recipient of addiction or mental health services.

During the interview process, candidates will be asked to discuss their recovery experiences.
