Opportunity Overview

WSP is actively seeking an Associate Project Accountant to support our financial operations. This role is essential in providing specialized accounting and financial expertise to project teams, ensuring the accuracy of project charges, managing cost transfers, and maintaining project budgets.

Your Contributions

  • Independently oversee and analyze the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenues, ensuring precise profit and loss calculations.
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of project accounting, from establishing project accounts to tracking budgets and reconciling payables and receivables.
  • Conduct detailed accounting tasks related to project contract revenue and billing events.
  • Collaborate with project managers to set and adjust project budgets as necessary.
  • Generate and evaluate project financial reports, escalating issues to project management when needed.
  • Authorize access to project accounts and manage expense transfers in line with accounting standards.
  • Maintain high-quality control standards for project financial records using Oracle and other tools.
  • Utilize accounting expertise to analyze project resources and expenses, reporting variances to management.
  • Review contract details and ensure compliance with billing requirements.
  • Coordinate subcontractor management, including invoice evaluations and payment requests.
  • Monitor unpaid billings and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Engage in project meetings to discuss financial status and address any issues.
  • Prepare government reports related to project activities.
  • Compile information for audits as required.
  • Stay updated on project accounting principles and practices.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional duties as needed based on business requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in accounting and project contracts.
  • Understanding of project accounting principles and their application.
  • Strong analytical skills and independent judgment in financial decision-making.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in accounting software and tools, including MS Excel.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze data and propose logical solutions.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
  • Willingness to travel as required by project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Oracle is a plus.

Compensation

Expected salary range: $54,700 - $90,000, depending on experience and location.
