Women In Need, Inc. provides safe, clean shelter and critical services and programs to over 10% of the homeless families in New York City. As the City's homelessness crisis continues to escalate at an unprecedented rate, Win continues to increase in size, staff, and scope. With 14 shelters, and hundreds of supportive housing units, Win serves more than 10,000 homeless families annually – always with a trauma informed focus on providing programs and services they need to confidently regain their independence and succeed on their own. For more than 39 years, Win's mission has been to break the cycle of homelessness for families in New York City.

About the Role:

The Family Shelter Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the program's multi-disciplinary team, including Social Service Supervisors, Housing Coordinators, Case Managers, and Administrative Assistants. They will also coordinate services provided by Employment Specialists, Child Care staff, and Recreation staff to ensure an integrated service plan to address the needs of each shelter resident and the primary goals of the transitional housing program.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise the program's multi-disciplinary team, including Social Service Supervisors, Housing Coordinators, Case Managers, and Administrative Assistants.
  2. Coordinate services provided by Employment Specialists, Child Care staff, and Recreation staff to ensure an integrated service plan to address the needs of each shelter resident and the primary goals of the transitional housing program.
  3. Provide coaching, training, and staff development to all staff in accordance with Win's policies and procedures.
  4. Ensure new staff orientation is provided so that they become quickly familiar with program procedures and goals.
  5. Ensure that Win's Human Capital Department is consulted for all staff performance concerns.
  6. Champion and model the use of Evidence Based Practices (EBP), Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  7. Monitor the Client Assistance and Rehousing Enterprise System (CARES) database along with the Social Service Supervisor for timely documentation.
  8. Train and support staff in their use of EBP with clients and use EBP to meet and exceed program goals.
  9. Ensure that all staff receive timely and quality performance evaluations in accordance with Win's personnel policies and procedures.
  10. Establish linkages with appropriate community agencies for services required by shelter residents, to include medical, mental health, substance abuse, child welfare and other stakeholders working with Win clients.
  11. Monitor the program's effectiveness in reaching the goals of permanent housing, securing clients' employment and establishing family stability.
  12. Analyze, develop and implement procedures and policies to ensure quality service provision.
  13. Assure a safe and healthy environment by participating in the overall security and maintenance of the program in accordance with regulatory guidelines and Win policies.
  14. Co-authorize purchase orders and ensure that all expenditures are being made in compliance with Win's procurement policies and procedures.
  15. Manage the program's petty cash and program metro cards to ensure compliance with Win's policies.
  16. Participate in local community organizations and attend Community Board meetings in the shelter's district and serve as a liaison with members of the community.
  17. Represent the agency at meetings, conferences and public hearings to gain and share information relevant to the program's operation.
  18. Establish a Community Advisory Board comprised of staff, transitional housing residents, and community members including NYPD and local representatives to meet on a quarterly basis.
  19. Participate in staff interviewing and hiring process.
  20. Perform other related duties as needed.

Educational Requirements:

  • Masters in Public Health (MPH), Master of Social Work (MSW) or Master of Arts (MA) in Health/Social Services is required.

Salary and Benefits:
