Community Development Engineer

Stantec is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented interns to join our Community Development Group in multiple locations throughout the Midwest. As an intern, you will work in a team environment and have exposure to community development projects that may include urban design and planning, roadways, park and recreation design, multi-use trail and pathway design, traffic engineering, landscape architecture, assessment and rehabilitation, infrastructure design, water and wastewater conveyance, and storm water management.
Key Responsibilities- Use technical and communication abilities to complete the civil component of a wide variety of projects in a dynamic design team setting.
- Inspect construction sites for compliance with project documents and engineering principles.
- Assist with preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and other project deliverables.
- Attend meetings on an as needed basis.
- Complete detailed reports as required.
- Procure permits and other approvals from various agencies.
- Communicate effectively with construction and engineering staff, clients, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with CAD drafting and design, and preparation of construction documents.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Requires understanding of basic AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interest in community development engineering disciplines.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must have a vehicle, good driving record, and valid driver's license.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- In progress toward earning a bachelor's degree (minimum) in civil engineering or environmental engineering.
- Specific coursework or exposure to one or more of the following is desired: planning, design, construction, architecture, infrastructure, hydrology, environmental, surveying and construction management.
