Job Description

The Title VIII Black Sea Research Fellow will be part of the Black Sea Program, which explores interactions among countries in the extended Black Sea area-Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine-with the Middle East, Russia, and China. The fellow will conduct research, travel to the region, and participate in policy dialogue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth research on the Black Sea region, focusing on political, economic, security, democratic, and governance challenges
  • Develop a rigorous research project with clear relevance to U.S. foreign policy in the Black Sea region
  • Travel to the region for field research and engage in policy dialogue with stakeholders
  • Produce high-quality research outputs, including reports, articles, and policy briefs
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A graduate- or post-doctoral degree in international affairs, political science, economics, European/East European studies, or a related discipline
  • Substantial research or study experience relating to the Black Sea region
  • Demonstrated interest in one or more of the research areas covered by the MEI Black Sea Program
  • Excellent research and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently
  • Strong language skills, particularly in Russian, Turkish, or other regional languages
