Job Title: Black Sea Region Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Black Sea Region Expert. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth research on the Black Sea region, its strategic importance, and its relevance to U.S. foreign policy.

Company Overview:

The Middle East Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting greater understanding of the Middle East. We aim to provide analysis, research, and education on regional issues, fostering dialogue and cooperation between the United States and the countries of the Middle East.

Estimated Salary:

$85,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Position:

This fellowship provides an opportunity for individuals to conduct research and contribute to the development of U.S. foreign policy in the Black Sea region. The successful candidate will be expected to produce high-quality research, participate in policy dialogue, and collaborate with our team to advance American understanding of the region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth research on the Black Sea region, its strategic importance, and its relevance to U.S. foreign policy.
  • Develop and implement research projects, including field research in one country of their choice (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, or Ukraine).
  • Participate in policy dialogue and collaboration with our team to advance American understanding of the region.
  • Produce high-quality research, including reports, articles, and presentations.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Masters or Ph.D. in international affairs, political science, economics, European/East European studies, or a related discipline.
  • Substantial research or study experience relating to the Black Sea region, as well as demonstrated interest in one or more of the research areas covered by the MEI Black Sea Program.
  • Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Regional language skills, while not a requirement, are a plus.
