Pain Management Registered Nurse

This role is part of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments.
Eligibility requirements must be met according to VHA policy, and applications should be submitted within four months of appointment.
Approval for the program, including award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years), will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.
Key Responsibilities:The Registered Nurse in the Pain Clinic will be responsible for all aspects of the nursing process while providing and supervising direct patient care.
This includes delivering essential, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while honing technical skills.
Key duties include:
- Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care tailored to age-specific needs.
- Coordinating care with a focus on patient education, self-management, and overall satisfaction throughout the care continuum.
- Administering medications and procedures in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to influence care outcomes.
- Initiating, directing, and supervising patient care in the pain procedure setting while working alongside other healthcare professionals to ensure quality and continuity of care.
The RN should have a thorough understanding of sterile techniques and maintain proficiency in sterile setups for various pain management procedures.
Additionally, the RN will provide appropriate care for various pain procedures, including:
- Epidural injections
- Nerve blocks
- Medial branch blocks
- Radiofrequency nerve ablations
- Spinal cord stimulation trials
- Trigger point injections
The RN will also manage care associated with different levels of moderate sedation, understanding the physiological and pharmacological effects of administered medications.
Responsibilities include:
- Completing pre- and post-procedure tasks related to moderate sedation, including monitoring patients' multi-organ systems and responding to assessment data requiring urgent intervention.
- Providing recovery care post-moderate sedation, including monitoring and initiating treatment for complications and side effects.
- Utilizing discharge criteria to evaluate patient recovery and readiness for discharge from the procedural setting.
The Pain Management Registered Nurse will identify meaningful parameters for patients receiving moderate sedation under close supervision, assist providers with procedures, manage workload effectively, and provide basic education to patients regarding routine procedures.
Compensation and Benefits:The position offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including:
- Competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards.

Work hours will be determined based on service needs. Telework may be available at management's discretion. Requirements:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, and non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable.
All selected candidates will undergo a urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all healthcare personnel.
Full vaccination against COVID-19 is also required, with accommodations available as required by law.
Qualifications:Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English and have graduated from an accredited nursing program.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. state or territory is required.
Physical requirements include the ability to perform work that involves regular bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
