LifeWorks of Austin, TX is seeking dedicated Youth Care Workers on a Relief/PRN basis. These professionals play a crucial role in delivering care and support to young individuals aged 16 to 20 within a licensed 24-hour residential environment. Youth Care Workers are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients while adhering to the core values and mission of the organization. Their responsibilities encompass mentoring, supervising, transporting, and facilitating participation in daily activities, all aimed at fostering the development and self-sufficiency of youth. This position is specifically located at our EMERGENCY SHELTER.

Compensation:
The hourly wage for Youth Care Worker roles ranges from $22.00 to $22.50, contingent upon experience, with potential additional compensation for night and weekend shifts.

PRN/Relief Schedule:
Relief staff are required to work on an as-needed basis, with a minimum commitment of two shifts per month, with opportunities to take on additional shifts as they arise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Safety and Engagement:
  • Engage consistently with clients using a strengths-based approach, supporting their daily activities and progress towards individual goals.
  • Assist clients with essential daily needs, including case management, educational activities, job search efforts, transportation, meal preparation, and medication administration.
  • Coordinate transportation for clients to various outings, including community activities, appointments, and emergency visits.
  • Facilitate discussions with youth on important topics such as identity, mental health, and self-sufficiency while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Support youth in developing positive coping strategies and healing from trauma through a trauma-informed approach.
  • Maintain composure in high-pressure situations, demonstrating care and respect for youth.
  • Utilize approved behavior modification techniques to de-escalate conflicts and apply physical restraints when necessary, following established protocols.
  • Document incidents and implement safety plans in collaboration with team members and case managers.
  • Conduct intake and discharge processes, including obtaining consent for services and conducting risk assessments.
  • Provide initial orientation to clients, explaining services, rights, and responsibilities.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards as per organizational guidelines.
Facility Compliance:
  • Conduct regular checks of the facility, including perimeter walks and room inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of client activities and incidents while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Document client behavior, progress, and medication administration through daily logs and reports.
  • Communicate effectively with team members while upholding client confidentiality.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills as required.
  • Ensure cleanliness in common areas and compliance with licensing standards.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development, including monthly supervision meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • A valid Texas driver's license is necessary.
