LifeWorks of Austin, TX is seeking dedicated Youth Care Workers on a Relief/PRN basis. These professionals are tasked with delivering care and support to young individuals aged 16 to 20 within a licensed residential environment. Youth Care Workers play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of clients while adhering to the core values and mission of the organization. Their responsibilities encompass a range of services aimed at fostering the development, self-sufficiency, and personal goals of the youth. This role is situated in our EMERGENCY SHELTER.

Compensation: The hourly wage for Youth Care Worker positions ranges from $22.00 to $22.50, contingent upon experience, with potential additional differentials for night and weekend shifts.

PRN/Relief Schedule:
Relief staff are required to work on an as-needed basis, with a minimum commitment of two shifts per month, with opportunities to take on additional shifts as they arise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Engagement and Safety:
  • Consistently interact with clients using a client-centered and strengths-based approach, supporting their daily activities and guiding them towards their individual aspirations.
  • Assist clients with essential daily needs, including case management, educational activities, job searches, transportation, meal preparation, and medication administration.
  • Coordinate transportation for clients to various outings, including community activities, appointments, and interviews.
  • Engage in meaningful discussions with youth on topics such as identity, mental health, and healthy boundaries while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Support youth in developing positive coping strategies and healing from trauma through a holistic approach.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure or crisis situations, demonstrating care and respect for youth.
  • Utilize approved behavior modification techniques to de-escalate situations and apply physical restraint techniques when necessary.
  • Document incidents and implement safety plans in collaboration with team members and case managers, adhering to DFPS Minimum Standards.
  • Facilitate the intake and discharge processes for client services, including obtaining consent and conducting risk assessments.
  • Conduct initial orientations, explaining services, client rights, and organizational policies.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines as per DFPS standards and LifeWorks safety protocols.
Facility Compliance:
  • Conduct regular facility checks, including perimeter walks and room inspections.
  • Maintain daily written records of client activities and incidents, ensuring confidentiality in accordance with legal standards.
  • Document client behavior, progress, and engagement through daily logs and reports while upholding confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and support staff while maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills as part of the facility's safety planning.
  • Ensure cleanliness and compliance with licensing standards in all areas of the facility.
  • Engage in required training and professional development activities, including monthly supervision sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid Texas driver's license is necessary.
