Job Summary

The U.S. Courts is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probation Officer to join our team in the Supervision Division. As a Probation Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety and providing support to individuals under supervision.

About the Role

As a Probation Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring and supervising individuals under court-ordered supervision, conducting investigations, and providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals. You will work closely with other agencies and community members to ensure the success of our supervision program.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular field activities, including home and community visits, to monitor and supervise individuals under supervision

• Investigate employment, income, lifestyle, and associates to assess risk and compliance

• Make referrals to appropriate outside agencies, such as mental health and drug treatment facilities, and employment and training agencies

• Communicate with other organizations and individuals, such as law enforcement and treatment agencies, to share information and coordinate efforts

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a field such as criminal justice, criminology, psychology, or sociology

• Two years of specialized experience in probation, pretrial services, parole, corrections, or criminal investigations

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a probation officer on a federal, state, or county level

• Knowledge of federal law and the criminal justice system

• Strong familiarity with techniques in supervising offenders
