Job Title: Probation Officer

U.S. Courts is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probation Officer to join our team in the Eastern District of New York. As a Probation Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety and providing support to individuals under supervision.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct investigations and gather information to assess risk and compliance
  • Develop and implement effective supervision plans to promote adherence to conditions and reduce risks to the community
  • Provide guidance and support to individuals under supervision, addressing substance abuse, mental health, and other issues
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, treatment agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure effective case management
  • Prepare and present reports to the court, making recommendations for disposition
Requirements:
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in a field such as criminal justice, criminology, or psychology
  • Two years of specialized experience in probation, pretrial services, or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel and varying work schedules
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience as a probation officer on a federal, state, or county level
  • Knowledge of federal law and the criminal justice system
  • Strong familiarity with techniques in supervising offenders
