Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Assistant I to join our team. As a Clinical Laboratory Assistant I, you will be responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary specimen collection on patients of all age groups, accurately identifying and labeling all specimens following established laboratory protocol.

You will use the laboratory information system or other reference laboratory's web-based applications to independently solve complex issues in a sensitive, caring, and timely manner. Additionally, you will process all specimens in accordance with laboratory protocol, including proper handling, centrifugation, storage, packaging, and transport.

Responsibilities include collecting all insurance/financial information necessary for proper billing, demonstrating knowledge of requirements for collecting ABNs and filling out MSPQ information, accurately entering orders and patient demographic information in the laboratory information system, and answering and navigating calls with accuracy, efficiency, and courtesy using best customer service tactics and practices.

Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent or applicable coursework to be applied to obtain required WA State Medical Assistant Phlebotomy (MA-P) - Certification.
  • Certification from an approved phlebotomy-training program with successful completion of a required internship preferred, or relevant work experience.
  • Medical terminology
  • State of Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist (MA-P) or equivalent.
  • Have and maintain current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
Desired Qualifications
  • 3 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory customer service or specimen processing role
  • Previous training and competence in dealing with the unique needs in the range of customer service situations with clinicians and their office staff
  • Working knowledge of the various government regulations specifically Medicare and the Washington state medical Test Site regulations. Working knowledge of the College of American Pathologists (ASCP) and the Joint Commission (TJC) inspection criteria
