Responsibilities of the Physical Therapist:

  • Deliver physical therapy services to patients in accordance with a physician's prescribed care plan and state regulations.
  • Educate and guide clients, their families, and agency staff on appropriate treatment methods and supportive activities.
  • Assist in assessing the functional capabilities of patients.
  • Collaborate in creating individualized care plans.
  • Document clinical and progress notes accurately.
  • Translate therapeutic exercises into practical daily activities.
  • Develop strategies for modifying home environments and equipment to enhance client care.
  • Maintain regular communication with healthcare providers regarding patient progress and treatment responses.
  • Explain treatment implications to clients and their families, aligning with the provider's directives.
  • Offer support and encouragement to families to foster patient motivation.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive clinical summaries based on patient goal achievements.
  • Supervise physical therapy assistants in accordance with organizational policies and state laws.
  • Keep precise clinical records to track patient goals and progress.

Responsibilities of the Physical Therapist Assistant:

  • Provide direct physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, following the physician's care plan and state regulations.
  • Assist patients in pain relief, functional restoration, and performance maximization.
  • Guide patients through therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, and functional training.
  • Administer basic therapeutic modalities such as heat, cold, and electrical treatments to stable patients.
  • Instruct and motivate clients in enhancing their functional abilities.
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate findings to the supervising physical therapist.
  • Help prepare clinical documentation and progress reports for review.
  • Report any changes in patient conditions to the supervising physical therapist and nursing director.
  • Educate patients on the proper use of assistive devices.

Qualifications:

  • Physical Therapist: Must have graduated from an accredited Physical Therapy program recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association. Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of practice is required, along with a minimum of two years of experience in a hospital setting or equivalent.
  • Physical Therapist Assistant: Must have graduated from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program with an Associate's degree. Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of practice is required, along with at least one year of experience in the field.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is mandatory.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and appropriate automobile insurance are necessary.
