Construction Manager

SMSI is seeking two Construction Engineer III candidates to work onsite in Los Alamos, NM.
The Construction Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the approved project documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities.
This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as-built configurations are verified.
Construction Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures.
At the level 3 position, leadership experience is a requirement.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor facility maintenance and construction activities to ensure compliance with approved project documents.
- Provide input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure accuracy and adherence to design documents.
- Expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor.
- Lead others in the execution of their duties and work independently on tasks ranging in complexity.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of construction engineering principles.
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
- Proven ability to suggest, develop, and implement process improvements.
- Demonstrated skills in multi-disciplinary team building and leadership.
- Expert knowledge in developing Material Take Offs.
- Expert knowledge in technical codes pertaining to various disciplines.
- Expert organizational skills for field engineering oversight and staff using of multiple simultaneous construction projects.
- Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular construction discipline.
- Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering.
- Welding experience or CWI is preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, blue beam, and CAD is preferred.
- Electrical/Mechanical/Engineering experience, field experience, materials experience highly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 6 years of practical work experience OR 14 years of industry experience.
- Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
