Key Responsibilities
Willdan is in search of an Energy Efficiency Specialist to become a vital member of our innovative and resourceful team.

The Energy Efficiency Specialist will be instrumental in supporting and executing new construction energy efficiency initiatives.

This role involves consulting on individual new construction projects and developing tools, energy efficiency strategies, and delivery methods to enhance these programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collecting necessary data to evaluate energy-saving alternatives using energy models.
  • Coordinating project timelines and meetings.
  • Managing the expectations of design teams and program managers.
  • Providing expert consultation and presenting findings to project teams, including owners, architects, and engineers.

Collaborate closely with the technical support team on research, analysis, and the development of energy efficiency strategies and tools. Integrate new insights into energy efficiency programs for new construction markets.

Assist in formulating internal policies and frameworks for the preparation of project feasibility reports and workpapers that align with regulatory requirements governing energy efficiency programs.

Conduct energy simulation analyses and present model outcomes.

Prepare comprehensive reports detailing energy modeling results and design recommendations.

Effectively communicate energy conservation strategies to both technical and non-technical team members to aid in informed design decisions.

Partner with project managers to ensure high-quality outcomes and deliverables.

Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of regulatory policies related to energy efficiency programs.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a minimum of a four-year degree in a technical discipline such as Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Construction Management, Building Science, or a closely related field.

Knowledge of building design, construction processes, and/or building operations is essential.

1 to 5 years of proven experience with hourly simulation tools such as DOE-2, EnergyPlus, or IESVE, along with building energy analysis capabilities, including:

  • Interpreting complex data.
  • Conducting cost/benefit analyses.
  • Making strategic recommendations based on analysis.
  • Assessing the implications of alternative system options.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and energy simulation support is required.

Previous experience in developing and supporting energy efficiency measures and strategies in investor-owned utility-sponsored programs is preferred.

In-depth knowledge of regulations and policies established by the California Public Utilities Commission governing energy efficiency programs is advantageous.

Familiarity with thermodynamics, physics, and mathematics is necessary.

Knowledge of energy codes and standards (ASHRAE 55, 62.1, 90.1, 189.1, IECC) is also required.

Professional Engineer or Registered Architect credentials or qualifications that enable licensure are desirable.

Relevant industry certifications such as California Certified Energy Analyst (CEA), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), LEED Accredited Professional, Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP), or Commissioning Authority (CxA) are a plus.
