GIS Asset Analyst Job Description

The City of Billings is seeking a highly skilled GIS Asset Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining GIS-based asset management systems that support and optimize the data collection and analysis of our infrastructure and equipment assets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, expand, and oversee a GIS-based asset management program to ensure accurate and up-to-date data.
  • Collaborate with department representatives to understand their asset management needs and provide training and support on the use of GIS-based asset management systems.
  • Work with GIS-based asset management software to leverage asset management data for developing analytical reports, dashboards, maps, and spreadsheets.
  • Support asset management inventory system and perform statistical analyses on asset condition, performance, and risk data.
  • Coordinate with outside consultants and manage procurement and professional or service contracts as necessary.
  • Serve as a technical expert for all in-office and mobile asset management systems, providing support, training, and monitoring staff progress.
  • Develop program training material and coordinate training activities for new and existing employees.
  • Configure and customize the asset management application to enhance its functionality and usability.
  • Lead and manage the implementation of operations and maintenance of all asset management software and hardware.
  • Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with other GIS and IT staff to ensure GIS data for all managed assets are up to date and part of a regular scheduled backup strategy.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, GIS, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in asset management, IT, or GIS.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with department representatives and staff.
  • A valid Montana driver's license or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Ability to pass a State and Federal criminal history background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with City Works, Crystal Reports, SQL, GIS Information Systems, ESRI ArcGIS products, and local government infrastructure.
