Medical Assistant Scheduler Endoscopy GI Clinic

A Medical Assistant has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This involves caring for patients with acute and chronic needs, rotating between a Scheduler and Medical Assistant in the GI Clinic.
Key Responsibilities- Performs general administrative and patient care tasks in accordance with the Intermountain MGPSMA Scope of Practice and other established policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively and diplomatically within a multi-disciplinary care team.
- Greets and prepares patients for the healthcare provider while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
- Attends to patients' needs, coordinates care, administers care, and documents appropriately.
- Ensures patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
- Obtains and records patient information, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, and chief complaint, etc.
- Demonstrates knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
- May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Performs routine tests, including EKGs, hearing, and vision screens, as requested by the provider.
- Schedules patients for diagnostic testing and follow-up as necessary to ensure completion of testing.
- Communicates test results to patients and establishes a plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the provider.
- Documents patient plans of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
- Prepares, cleans, and sterilizes instruments and maintains equipment; stocks patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness and organization, and disposes of contaminated items according to protocol.
- Administers ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
- Escalates non-routine issues, questions, and/or concerns to the practice manager and/or healthcare provider(s).
- Ensures safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current BLS Certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire upon approval.
- One (1) year Medical Assistant experience, including phlebotomy experience, required.
- Successful completion of initial MA onboarding within 90 days, annual skills fair, and in-services for site-specific tasks required.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy required.
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Successful completion of an Accredited National Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
This position is located at the Billings Downtown Clinic Gastroenterology in Billings, Montana.
