Position Group: 08 FLSA Status: Nonexempt Reports to: Farm Supervisor

Position Summary:
Responsible for the care and management of birds in brooding and growing facilities; assess bird quality and growth by performing the following duties:

Key Responsibilities:


Handle pullets and male birds; assist farm crew with vaccinations; administer medications to birds as necessary (10%)
Feed and water birds according to established schedules; conduct daily inspections of water lines, manage mortality, and check birds for signs of illness or weakness that require euthanasia in accordance with company policy (25%)
Apply insecticides, herbicides, and rodenticides (10%)
Maintain daily records of feed and mortality (25%)
Clean and disinfect equipment (10%)
Collect weekly lab samples (10%)
Inspect birds to assess quality and growth by weighing birds weekly; set up brooding house materials; perform basic maintenance; ensure optimal conditions for bird health (5%)
Operate a weed eater/blower; maintain and sanitize breakroom, equipment, and vehicles (5%)
Adhere to biosecurity and animal welfare protocols. The work environment is biosecure, requiring personnel to shower and change clothing and footwear before entering the facility.

Appropriate clothing and footwear will be provided by the company.

Jewelry is restricted on the job site, except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.

Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must also agree to comply with the Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical:
Must utilize safe lifting techniques.

Must be able to push or pull up to 300 pounds and lift 50 pounds to move items such as bags of shavings, feed buckets, and tools.

While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for the majority of the shift on various surfaces (concrete, shavings); sit; use hands to handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; balance; climb; talk or hear; stoop/bend frequently; and drive a vehicle within the farm complex.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Environment:

Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in extreme conditions, including hot, dry, dusty, dark, wet, icy, snowy, and cold environments.

Must be prepared to work in high temperatures for two to three weeks during the placement of baby chicks.

Personal Protective Equipment Required:
Safety goggles, face shields, chemical gloves, waterproof aprons, headlamps, and rubber boots are mandatory. Ear plugs will be provided as necessary. NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators will be used as needed.

Chemicals Commonly Used:
Disinfectants such as Synergize, Lysol, bleach, insecticides, herbicides, and rodenticides.

Safety:
Team members are expected to adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout, and Personal Protective Equipment. Team members should identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks.
