Key Responsibilities

  • Pitching new stories and developing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Conducting pre-interviews and facilitating logistics on various segments
  • Working with publicists, attorneys, companies, and other figures in the news
  • Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of the broadcast newsgathering process
  • Researching and verifying information for news stories
  • Collaborating with newsroom managers and producers to ensure smooth production of news segments
  • Communicating effectively with guests, contacts, and other team members

Requirements

  • 5+ years of producing experience in a professional newsroom
  • Degree or equivalent experience in broadcast journalism or a related field
  • Proven news judgment and experience chasing breaking news and booking entertainment figures
  • Detailed understanding of the broadcast newsgathering process
  • Strong research skills, including working with public and private records databases
  • Experience supporting newsgathering teams in the field using solid news judgment and leadership skills
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced and time-critical situations
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple news pieces with different deadlines
  • Ability to manage ongoing relationships with external contributors, news outlets, and other team members
  • Willingness to travel on breaking news and work occasional overnight and/or weekend shifts
