We're on the hunt for a talented Associate Producer, Daily News who can join our dynamic team at Crooked Media As a key member of our news podcast What A Day, you'll play a vital role in shaping the conversation around politics, culture, and the world around us.

We're looking for someone with a clear understanding of the Crooked brand, a passion for news and politics, and experience in booking talent and producing podcasts from start to finish. Crooked Media has adopted a hybrid work model, and this role will be primarily based on-site in our Los Angeles studios, working Sunday through Thursday with varied hours. We're ideally looking for Los Angeles-based candidates or those willing to relocate before the start date. In addition, all employees must provide proof of full vaccination and booster to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide editorial and creative support for news podcasts and hosts
  • Track news and newsmakers, jumping on breaking news as needed
  • Pitch creative story ideas and guests for the show
  • Pre-interview and book experts for the show
  • Develop briefing materials for interviews and episodes
  • Work with hosts and producers on identifying and gathering elements to complete episodes (including audio and video assets)
  • Provide notes and edits for final cuts to senior producer
  • Work with hosts and senior producers to develop outlines and run of show documents for individual episodes
  • Participate in daily and weekly editorial meetings
  • Report out specific stories as assigned
Technical Execution:
  • Work with studio manager/audio engineer on sound and technical aspects of the show
  • Work with production team to book studio time/arrange remote sessions
  • Cut and edit clips and sound elements that run within podcasts
  • Upload and schedule episodes, ensuring delivery across listener platforms
  • Publish episode pages and support the show's presence on Crooked's website
  • Publish newsletter on Crooked's website
Show Steward:
  • Coordinate with video producers and social media teams to maximize audience for the show across all platforms
  • Work with Sales team to ensure ad copy has been delivered to hosts and ads have been recorded
  • Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to build and publicize the show and other shows on the Crooked network through video, social, design, business development, and marketing efforts
  • Assist in planning and execution of live events/recordings
  • Contribute to other Crooked projects and properties as needed

  • 2 years of experience in news, digital media, or politics
  • Enthusiasm for daily news
  • Exceptional research skills
  • Understanding of journalism and journalistic ethics
  • A curious and collaborative approach
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and work under pressure
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • A self-motivated, proactive, creative, accountable, and kind attitude
  • Audio editing skills
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

At Crooked Media, we believe in paying employees at or above market rates that are informed by salary surveys and industry benchmarks. For this role, the estimated salary is $80,000 per year.
