Position Overview
Under the guidance of the Field Services Manager, this role involves planning, organizing, and overseeing a team of employees dedicated to the maintenance and operation of wastewater collection systems, equipment, and facilities. The supervisor will perform a range of technical and administrative support functions and ensure compliance with established standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate the activities of wastewater collection maintenance and construction crews, ensuring effective work assignments and prioritization.
- Participate in the selection, promotion, and disciplinary processes for personnel.
- Provide guidance and support to employees, addressing grievances and establishing performance standards.
- Prepare and manage work schedules, monitor progress, and ensure quality control of completed tasks.
- Interpret and enforce policies and regulations governing wastewater collection operations.
- Maintain accurate records related to payroll and employee attendance.
- Conduct safety training and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Evaluate equipment and material needs for daily operations and projects.
- Prepare cost estimates and manage project budgets.
- Collaborate with contractors on new construction initiatives.
- Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding wastewater services.
- Conduct inspections of job sites to monitor progress and ensure compliance with standards.
- Prepare reports and documentation related to work activities and job status.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient in English and knowledgeable about wastewater collection methods and equipment.
- Understanding of construction principles related to wastewater infrastructure.
- Ability to apply mathematics in operational contexts.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, codes, and regulations.
- Strong record-keeping and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures in wastewater operations.
- Ability to lead and train a team effectively.
- Capable of preparing comprehensive reports and cost estimates.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff and the public.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Valid California driver's license.
- Certification as a Water Distribution Operator Grade II or higher.
- Collection System Maintenance certification Grade III or higher.
Education: High school diploma or GED; an associate's degree is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of five years in water distribution and/or wastewater collection system maintenance, including supervisory experience.
