Position Summary

This role reports directly to the Laboratory Manager and operates under their guidance, as well as that of Shift Coordinators and Section Coordinators. The incumbent will perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests with precision and efficiency. It is essential to develop and apply technical and analytical skills, along with a comprehensive understanding of departmental protocols and equipment, aiming for advancement to Medical Technologist within two years of employment (preferred). The position requires a collaborative approach, assisting other departments as necessary in a team-oriented setting.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Proficiency - Exhibits technical expertise by executing various laboratory techniques, including moderate complexity tests, and preferably high complexity testing. ;Conducts tests in accordance with established laboratory protocols, ensuring accuracy and reliability. 2. Instrumentation Knowledge - Acquires and demonstrates proficiency in laboratory instruments, procedures, and workflows. ;Performs scheduled maintenance on instruments, ensuring documentation is completed within designated timeframes. 3. Laboratory Operations - Engages in tasks that facilitate the overall functioning of laboratory services, adhering to policies and regulatory standards. ;Takes accountability for all reagents and supplies linked to assigned tests, ensuring readiness for subsequent analyses. 4. Professional Development - Participates in initiatives that reflect professionalism and a commitment to ongoing education and career advancement. ;Engages in inter-laboratory continuing education programs. Qualifications

EDUCATION

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Biological Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field is required. A review of transcripts is necessary, with eligibility for moderate complexity testing required. Eligibility for high complexity testing is highly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Prior laboratory experience is preferred but not mandatory.

LICENSURE

Eligibility for ASCP categorical certification, with completion expected within two years of employment (highly preferred).

SPECIAL SKILLS

Fundamental knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment is essential. Proficient manual dexterity for laboratory procedures is required. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet applications, and web-based resources is necessary. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with hospital personnel are critical. Excellent customer service and interpersonal abilities are essential, as is the capacity to work effectively within a diverse team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Proficient manual dexterity for laboratory tasks is required.
