Microbiology Laboratory Specialist

Yale New Haven Health is in search of a proficient Microbiology Laboratory Specialist to enhance our dedicated team. The successful applicant will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or a related field, along with one to two years of relevant experience in a recognized Clinical Laboratory. Preferred qualifications include certification such as MT(ASCP). This position entails conducting both routine and advanced clinical laboratory tests within the Microbiology Laboratory. The specialist will be tasked with analyzing bacterial, fungal, and mycobacterial cultures, ensuring quality control, and collaborating effectively with various departments and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement fundamental principles of microbiology, laboratory protocols, theories, and methodologies
  • Analyze and interpret results from bacterial, fungal, and mycobacterial cultures
  • Ensure quality control measures are upheld and document any corrective actions taken
  • Engage in learning new laboratory procedures as per the training schedule
  • Contribute to the revision of standard operating procedures
  • Effectively utilize Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Prioritize tasks based on urgency and medical necessity
  • Participate in the training of laboratory personnel and students
  • Adhere to established laboratory policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills
  • Commit to delivering quality patient care
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or a related field

Experience: One to two years in a recognized Clinical Laboratory

Licensure: Certification such as MT(ASCP) is preferred

Special Skills: Proficient understanding of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, strong organizational capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team

Physical Demand: Must be able to tolerate personal protective equipment (PPE) required for work in a BSL2 or BSL3 laboratory environment
