Position Overview:
The Senior Group Underwriting Consultant at Elevance Health is a pivotal role based in a hybrid work environment, allowing for flexibility while fostering in-person collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Group Underwriting Consultant is tasked with evaluating the acceptability of insurance risks and establishing appropriate premium rates for intricate group cases. This position represents the highest level of technical underwriting expertise within the organization.

Impactful Contributions:
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Calculating renewal rates for complex cases through comprehensive analysis of experience, demographics, and other relevant factors.
  • Providing expert guidance to medical underwriters regarding risk selection for applicants seeking individual health coverage.
  • Collaborating with various departments to ensure accuracy and consistency in account reporting.
  • Proposing rates for potential business using a blend of carrier experience, demographic insights, and manual rates.
  • Overseeing the preparation of annual settlements, ERISA reports, and rate projections.
  • Conducting market surveys of existing product portfolios, monitoring sales trends, and recommending necessary adjustments.
  • Assisting in the establishment of rating and administrative protocols.
  • Participating as the underwriting representative in significant multi-functional teams.
  • Supporting the technical development of underwriting associates by analyzing reports and workflows to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Updating departmental processes to comply with regulatory and business standards.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with a minimum of 7 years of pertinent experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills:
Preferred qualifications include certifications such as CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA, PAHM, or other insurance-related coursework. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is highly desirable, along with strong communication and presentation abilities.
