Position Overview:
This role is contingent upon grant funding, which is anticipated but not guaranteed. Should funding cease, this position may be subject to termination.

Role Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, the Planning Coordinator serves as a liaison and facilitator for agricultural initiatives and agribusinesses, aimed at bolstering economic development while addressing food security and enhancing community resilience.

Key Duties Include:
  • Facilitating strategic planning, marketing, and brand development for agricultural products across regional areas.
  • Building and nurturing relationships with various stakeholders, including educational institutions, governmental bodies, and both private and non-profit organizations.
  • Creating and managing collaborative files for clients, ensuring confidentiality in accordance with professional standards.
  • Assisting in the coordination of opportunities for producers to develop comprehensive agricultural business plans, covering financial, marketing, and risk management aspects.
  • Providing producers with essential tools and resources for business development.
  • Hosting outreach activities focused on market development, funding opportunities, and educational initiatives to support agribusinesses.
  • Facilitating product label approvals and providing information on necessary permits and certifications for business scalability.
  • Coordinating partnerships to connect agribusinesses with resources that promote statewide food security and foster resilient communities.
  • Assisting with local high tunnel production planning, including irrigation and optimal growing techniques.
  • Supporting local initiatives to expand farm-to-school programs and ensure safe food distribution.
  • Enhancing access to local fresh foods for senior citizens.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
This role involves prolonged periods of sitting, standing, driving, and/or walking, along with the use of computers and office equipment. Extended hours and overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications:
  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in economics, agriculture, agribusiness, food sciences, business administration, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of proven success in economic or business development, with a preference for experience in agribusiness development or marketing.
Additional Requirements:
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing is required.
  • Completion of a pre-employment law enforcement background check, including DMV records, is necessary.
  • Maintaining a positive representation of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture is essential.
