Job Description Summary

The Advanced Product Development Section at GE Aerospace is driving innovation in the field of flight and advancing propulsion capabilities for military applications.

Our team focuses on designing, integrating, testing, and supporting advanced technologies for new and derivative engine concepts. We're pushing the boundaries in areas like military inlet & exhaust systems, integrated propulsion power & thermal management systems, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies.

We're seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Lead Engineer to contribute to the mechanical design and development of Edison Works New Product Introduction (NPI) as a Hardware Owner.

This role requires a passion for engineering, a strong understanding of the design process, and the ability to tackle technical challenges. As a Hardware Owner, you'll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to establish boundary conditions, assess material and manufacturing capabilities, and conduct design trades to optimize across a range of requirements.

You'll be responsible for developing core engineer skills, including 3D modeling, finite element analysis, high cycle & low cycle fatigue assessments, mechanical stack-ups, and drawing definition release. Additionally, you'll coordinate with senior technical leaders to evaluate work and prepare technical data for internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Under guidance of your Team Lead, use judgment and propose different solutions to address more complicated processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.
  • Leverage prior mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Demonstrate systems-thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements.
  • Act as a focal for colleagues with less experience.
  • Lead small projects with determined risks and resource requirements.
  • Explain information & develop skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.
  • Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and product requirements.
  • Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work.
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 3 additional years of experience in a relevant engineering position.
  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current/existing US Government Security Clearance
  • Demonstrated passion for engineering and exceptional communication skills.
  • Certification in or background with Material Review Board (MRB) engineering support.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze & solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, & program management skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.
  • Experience with structural component design.
  • Experience with engine/aircraft maintainability and reliability.
  • Experience with design quality assurance.
  • Experience working with DoD customer and processes.
  • Experience working in DoD EVM projects.
