Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at HexaQuEST Health, Inc. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience in phlebotomy and be certified in phlebotomy. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients, performing patient registration and payment collection, and operating laboratory information systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect blood specimens from patients using aseptic technique and following proper procedures
  • Perform patient registration and payment collection
  • Operate laboratory information systems to release orders and register patients
  • Answer and screen telephone calls in a professional and helpful manner
  • Resolve unusual or unclear test orders by contacting physicians, nurses, and reference laboratories
  • Generate lists and labels, run daily reports, and review order monitors and collection summary reports
  • Assess patient reaction to procedures and adjust process as indicated
  • Accurately identify and label specimens with patient name, date of birth, date and time of collection, and collector code
  • Perform specialized sample collections, including breath alcohol testing, random urine drug screens, and pre-employment urine drug screens
  • Receives and accesses collected specimens, examines for testing acceptability, centrifuges and aliquots specimens as needed, and delivers to the appropriate section in the laboratory or batches specimens for courier pick-up
  • Notify testing personnel of stat requests and accept specimens from internal and external customers, sort samples, resolve specimen identification or requisition issues, and utilize LIS to appropriately receive specimens
  • Perform limited waived testing, including blood glucose monitoring, and perform quality control procedures and proficiency testing accurately and as closely as possible to patient testing
  • Communicate critical results to authorized personnel and perform result entry in the LIS
  • Clean and check laboratory glassware, assist with inventory and maintenance of supplies, and submit orders for supply acquisition
Requirements
  • Three or more years of experience in phlebotomy
  • Current Phlebotomy Certification
  • Ability to work every other weekend and holiday, and night shifts
  • Working knowledge of hospital information systems and laboratory information systems
  • Ability to assess patient reaction to procedures and adjust process as indicated
  • Ability to accurately identify and label specimens
  • Ability to perform specialized sample collections
  • Ability to receive and access collected specimens
  • Ability to perform limited waived testing
  • Ability to communicate critical results to authorized personnel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual
  • EMR experience with EPIC
