Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at Mercy Health. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients, processing specimens, and performing administrative duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect blood samples from patients using aseptic technique and following appropriate procedures.
  • Assure specimen integrity by using aseptic technique and following appropriate procedures.
  • Provide patient instruction in the collection and handling of personally collected specimens.
  • Assess patient response to procedure and interact with the patient at a level that is understandable and comfortable for the patient.
  • Perform specialized sample collections including breath alcohol testing, random urine drug and Glucose Tolerance Testing.
  • Maintain a well-rounded competency of all specimen collection procedures within the laboratory.

Requirements:

  • Proficiently collect other samples as indicated including throat swabs, MRSA swabs, urine samples, heel sticks, finger sticks, blood cultures and blood bank specimens.
  • Possess the ability to work at other Mercy facilities performing the same functions, as required.
  • Ability to work alternate shifts, weekends and holidays as needed to adequately provide services.
