Oncology Nurse Specialist

Job Summary:
UW Health in Northern Illinois is seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse Specialist to join our team. As an Oncology Nurse Specialist, you will be responsible for providing specialized nursing support services to patients in an Ambulatory Care setting.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize the nursing process to provide oncology nursing services and physiological support to patients and their caregivers under the direction of physician.
- Facilitate professional intervention as required.
- Administer therapeutic and diagnostic measures and procedures prescribed by the physician and observe and evaluate their effect on the patient.
- Assist physician with prescribed procedures including bone marrow biopsy and aspiration, paracentesis and therapeutic phlebotomy.
- Coordinate Oncology services across the continuum of care, ensuring continuity and efficiency of nursing care and coordinates necessary referrals for Home Care and equipment, Hospice and Social Services.
- Perform a variety of technical duties following established procedures including reconstituting and administering cytoxic drugs performing venipuncture or central access devices assuring proper dilution, rate of infusion and sequencing, monitoring patient's vital signs and reporting adverse reactions.
- Plans, implements and documents patient education and precautions for family members.
- In collaboration with the Data Manager, maintains knowledge of clinical trials maintaining confidentiality of position-acquired information and following established guidelines ensuring careful collection of data.
Requirements:
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing Program. BSN is preferred but not required.
- At least one year of Inpatient, Outpatient Hospital, or Oncology patient care experience required.
- Current RN licensure to practice in the State of Illinois.
- ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification required within one year of hire.
- OCN Certification preferred within three years of hire.
- BI-annual CPR certification required.
