Position Title: FLATBED TRUCK OPERATOR

Department: DRIVERS/OPERATIONS

Reports to: ROUTE SUPERVISOR

Position Overview:

The Flatbed Truck Operator is responsible for operating a tractor-trailer in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies. This role involves the timely exchange and collection of loaded trailers at designated customer sites. The operator may also assist with the loading and unloading of freight as needed. Adherence to DOT load balancing and securement standards is essential. The operator will also provide basic customer service regarding delivery matters and assist in resolving any related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer, including checking tire pressure, fluid levels, and safety equipment.
  • Operate company vehicles in accordance with DOT and company safety protocols.
  • Communicate route status updates to the Route Supervisor and Customer Service Team.
  • Monitor vehicle gauges and indicators, ensuring all scheduled maintenance is performed.
  • Complete assigned pick-up routes efficiently.
  • Operate hydraulic controls as necessary.
  • Ensure loads comply with DOT securement regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the truck and trailer.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Report any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Route Manager.
  • Notify the Route Manager or Dispatch of any service interruptions or potential hazards.
  • Possess knowledge of recycling materials and proper loading and shipping procedures.
  • Demonstrate physical capability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 75 lbs.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Airbrake endorsement.
  • Minimum one year of CDL driving experience or verifiable 150,000 log miles.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and assist colleagues as needed.

Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to work in various weather conditions and may involve travel away from home. The operator must be willing to adhere to safety requirements and company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
