As a Child Welfare Investigator, you will deliver protective and preventive services. Your role will involve investigating claims of abuse and neglect, conducting risk and safety evaluations, formulating safety plans, and providing information and referrals to community resources for families at risk. You will also connect families with contracted family preservation and foster care services.
In the capacity of a Youth Protection Specialist, you will collaborate within the Joint Investigative Team (comprising a Supervisor, Child Welfare Investigator, and Youth Protection Specialist). You will receive reports regarding families where children are suspected of experiencing abuse or neglect or require care as defined by K.S.A. You will review initial data and, alongside the Child Welfare Investigator, develop a comprehensive investigative strategy.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• Child Welfare Investigator: A four-year degree in a Human Services or Behavioral Sciences field, or equivalent education as determined by the agency.
• Youth Protection Specialist: A minimum of two years of experience in investigation, fact-finding, or enforcing state or federal laws and regulations. An Associate's Degree in social work or criminal justice may substitute for experience as deemed relevant by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Child Welfare Investigator: One or more of the following: Bachelor's in Social Work (Licensed Social Worker), Master's in Professional Counseling (Licensed Professional Counselor), or Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist). Licensed professionals as determined relevant by the agency. A minimum of 2 years of experience in Children and Family Services.
• Youth Protection Specialist: Two years of experience in field investigative work as a law enforcement officer, corrections/parole officer, social worker, or private investigator. A Bachelor's degree in social work or criminal justice.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements :
Security Clearance: A background check (KBI - criminal background, welfare fraud, driver's license, and Child/Adult Abuse and Neglect Central Registry) is mandatory for all positions with the Department for Children and Families (DCF) as a condition of employment, which may include fingerprinting and an FBI check. Security clearance must be obtained prior to employment with DCF and must be maintained throughout employment.
