Department Overview:

This role will engage with MITRE, its sponsors, industry partners, and academic institutions to enhance the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in radio frequency (RF) applications, particularly in critical areas such as spectrum sharing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate technical strategies in collaboration with other MITRE technical leaders for the U.S. Government in these specialized fields. Educate and guide sponsors on challenges and viable solutions.
  • Foster collaborations with industry and academia, influencing their initiatives to align with the U.S. Government's vision and required capabilities. Identify opportunities for partnership with MITRE.
  • Recognize and lead the development of new business opportunities, both within MITRE's Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) and directly through MITRE Labs.
  • Support MITRE's internal research and development initiatives. Identify and prioritize research needs, collaborating with staff to create research proposals.
  • Serve as a key technical contributor on one or more projects within MITRE's operational framework.
  • Lead the development of L150's expertise in AI applications for RF systems and spectrum sharing. Identify the need for new capabilities to support the operational agenda, advocating for investment and guiding their development.
  • Build a diverse portfolio of RF solutions applicable to various sponsor mission requirements.
  • Collaborate with project leaders across the organization to ensure effective utilization of MITRE's capabilities to maximize impact for our sponsors.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 10 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 7 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience within the U.S. government research ecosystem.
  • Strong technical foundation and research experience in applying AI to various RF systems (e.g., communications, radar, navigation systems) and spectrum sharing.
  • Ability to build consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and sponsors to advance state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Capability to collaborate with sponsors to understand their use cases and develop actionable pathways.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret or higher clearance.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • External visibility (e.g., conference leadership, articles, interviews).
  • Experience in proposal writing (e.g., NSF).
