Job Overview

An opportunity for a laboratory research technician is currently available within the Department of Biochemistry. This role will focus on addressing fundamental inquiries related to the biology and pathogenic mechanisms of spirochetes, particularly those linked to Lyme disease and Syphilis. Interested candidates are encouraged to explore the departmental website for further insights into the ongoing research initiatives.

The selected individual will engage in both foundational research within molecular biology and microbiology, while also supporting routine laboratory operations, including procurement, inventory management, and documentation of protocols.

A successful applicant will possess prior experience in a research laboratory environment and demonstrate strong analytical and organizational capabilities. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in 1) experimental animal models 2) molecular biology techniques and 3) microbial pathogenesis. Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills; possess familiarity with basic software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe) and programming languages (R, Python, MatLab); exhibit excellent organizational abilities; and have some experience in microbiology and aseptic techniques. Additionally, experience in molecular biology, including cloning and bacterial transformation, as well as laboratory animal research, such as colony maintenance and infection studies, is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related discipline is preferred. Experience in preparing chemical solutions, performing accurate volumetric transfers, and effective communication is highly valued. Additional qualifications include demonstrated research experience and knowledge of maintaining a safe and orderly laboratory environment.
