Valley Community Interpreters (VCI) is seeking a dedicated individual to lead our organization and enhance language access in New Mexico.

Position Overview: The Chief Executive Officer is a full-time exempt role responsible for ensuring the operational stability and fostering the growth and development of Valley Community Interpreters (VCI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This position oversees the administration of two primary program areas: the VCI Academy and the VCI Agency.

Program Areas:

  • VCI Academy: This program provides interpreter training several times a year, aimed at cultivating a skilled interpreter workforce in New Mexico, proficient in cross-cultural communication to bridge language barriers.
  • VCI Agency: This division offers comprehensive language services, including interpretation (spoken languages) and translation (written language), through various methods such as on-site, telephonic, and online interpretation, as well as document translation and training for service provider staff.

Mission Statement: Valley Community Interpreters (VCI) is devoted to enhancing language access within health, social, and educational systems in New Mexico. We achieve this by delivering interpreter training and language services that adhere to national standards, ultimately improving the quality of life for Limited English Proficient (LEP) populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and support for the VCI Academy and Agency, ensuring alignment with the organization's Mission and Vision.
  • Facilitate the development of an interpreter workforce by mentoring graduates and establishing professional connections with VCI Agency clients.
  • Expand the client base for VCI Agency's language services, cultivate partnerships with language service providers nationwide, and advocate for the importance of language access within communities and among decision-makers.
  • Build and strengthen collaborations with local organizations and government entities to promote language access initiatives in New Mexico.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with funders, overseeing proposal submissions, grant writing, and fundraising efforts.

Organizational Duties:

  • Collaborate with the VCI Board to ensure the organization's financial and administrative success, while adhering to all 501(c)(3) compliance requirements.
  • Serve as the public representative of the organization, promoting VCI's Mission and Vision.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate VCI staff and contractors, ensuring adherence to HR policies and procedures.
  • Implement the strategic and fundraising development plans of the organization.
  • Work closely with the financial support team to ensure the organization's financial health.
  • Oversee the VCI Academy's operations, ensuring effective training delivery, registration processes, and record management.
  • Manage the daily operations of the VCI Agency, including maintaining office procedures and responding promptly to client service requests.

Required Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of the language services industry and the needs of LEP communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding the unique language access needs of communities and organizations in New Mexico.
  • Bachelor's degree in management, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years of leadership experience.
  • Strong collaborative skills and a process-oriented mindset.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to execute projects efficiently.
  • Proficient in technology and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience in conducting interpretation and language access workshops.
  • Familiarity with community service organizations in New Mexico.
  • Proven track record in grant writing and successful funding development.

Compensation: The annual salary ranges from $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience and education. VCI offers additional benefits to support all staff.
