Job Overview:

We are in search of a full-time Lead Ecological Consultant/Wildlife Specialist - Senior Project Manager to oversee projects in the eastern regions of the United States.

At WEST, we pride ourselves on our team of dedicated professionals who possess extensive experience in ecological research and the advanced analysis of natural resource data. Since our inception in 1990, we have established a strong foundation built on our core values and principles, emphasizing the importance of our work for clients, communities, and the environment.

The Camp Hill office, conveniently located near major urban centers, is home to a diverse team of specialists, including wildlife biologists, ecologists, GIS technicians, and data management experts. Our projects span various natural resource initiatives, primarily focusing on the development and permitting of renewable energy projects, alongside other endeavors that present ecological challenges.

Job Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have a robust background in wildlife study design, project management, and environmental consulting. Responsibilities will include:

  • Project Oversight:
    • Lead and coordinate projects aimed at addressing natural resource challenges during development phases.
    • Provide permitting support at federal and state levels for renewable energy and other development projects.
    • Manage field studies before and after construction for energy and development initiatives.
  • Collaboration: Engage with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Project Administration:
    • Prepare comprehensive reports and proposals, ensuring data quality assurance.
    • Consult on environmental issues related to wildlife and natural resources.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Manage project teams, deliverables, and budgets across multiple projects.
    • Train and supervise field coordinators and technicians.
    • Oversee field studies and staff operations.
  • Health and Safety: Promote a culture of safety within project teams.
  • Business Development: Market the capabilities of WEST and foster relationships to enhance business opportunities.
  • Travel: This position will require occasional overnight travel.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in biological sciences, natural resources, or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of experience in natural resource and wildlife project management, including budgeting and proposal writing.
  • Expertise in avian and/or bat ecology, with additional experience in wetland delineation or plant identification considered advantageous.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Strong writing skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Technical knowledge in wildlife biology and familiarity with regional wildlife.
