JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Practice Manager and the direct oversight of the healthcare provider(s), the individual will be tasked with assisting in patient evaluation and care, ensuring proper documentation, maintaining clinical environments, and executing all clinical procedures. The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of patient and family-centered care.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct nursing assessments pertinent to the chief complaint, including vital signs and other necessary measurements, documenting findings in the medical record and notifying the provider of any significant abnormalities.
  • Review and document the patient's medications during each visit.
  • Prepare patients both physically and psychologically for examinations and procedures, providing appropriate protection, explanations, and reassurance based on the patient's age.
  • Deliver patient education tailored to identified needs, covering topics such as diagnosis, procedures, and home care.
  • Operate within the boundaries of education and established provider/practice policies.
  • Order and manage clinical supplies efficiently.
  • Monitor inventory to prevent loss and ensure proper usage of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain equipment functionality by adhering to cleaning protocols and performing routine maintenance.
  • Exhibit knowledge of sterile techniques and universal precautions as required.
  • Perform laboratory tests as directed by the physician and document results for follow-up.
  • Welcome patients and escort them to the examination area.
  • Conduct the history and physical examination, taking vital signs and recording both objective and subjective data regarding presenting conditions.
  • Assist the physician with procedures as needed.
  • Prepare and sanitize the patient area as necessary, ensuring equipment is set up and cleaned post-procedure.
  • Administer and document medications as per physician orders.
  • Support patient discharge processes.
  • Conduct phone assessments, obtaining orders from the physician when appropriate and communicating back to the patient.
  • Process prescriptions over the phone, distinguishing between controlled substances.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and medications required for daily operations.
  • Ensure completion of patient consent forms for necessary procedures.
  • Exhibit professional conduct and communicate effectively with patients, physicians, office staff, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Log sample medications according to policy.
  • Establish and maintain patient medical records in accordance with the EMR system.
  • Accurately record patient information in designated areas of the EMR chart.
  • Document patient quality and value-based program information in the EMR as directed.
  • Uphold confidentiality of patient information and respect patient privacy rights.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and colleagues.
  • Identify clinical concerns within the department, propose solutions, and take necessary actions to address them.
  • Demonstrate adaptability in response to unexpected changes in workload, staffing, and scheduling.
  • Exhibit knowledge of patient safety protocols to ensure a secure environment and effective use of equipment and technology.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program and credentialing through recognized organizations is required.
  • Recent graduates may be considered prior to credentialing but must obtain it within a specified timeframe.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.

EXPERIENCE

  • One year of experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with medical procedures is required.

  • Able to travel independently throughout healthcare facilities.
  • Small motor skills necessary for operating office and telephone equipment.
  • Ability to exert manual effort in transporting materials and patients.
