Job Summary

The County of Nevada, CA is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our Facilities Department. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining assigned facilities in a clean, sanitary, and neat condition, adhering to occupational, safety, and health standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain basic building security, including unlocking facility doors, closing facilities after use, and raising flags.
  • Clean resilient and carpeted floor coverings using vacuums, mops, scrubbers, waxers, buffers, and other equipment.
  • Clean, dust, and polish furniture, woodwork, and cabinets, as well as clean stairways, hallways, restrooms, offices, lobbies, ceilings, walls, window coverings, light and bathroom fixtures, glass doors, windows, and interior glass partitions.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles, assist in moving and arranging furniture, set up facilities for special uses, and assist other department employees with small repair jobs.
  • Refill lavatory supply dispensers, stock and collect money from dispensers, replace light bulbs and tubes, and monitor supplies as needed.
  • Sweep areas adjacent to buildings, inspect work areas, and report needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Clean and maintain hand tools and electric equipment.
  • Perform the removal of snow and ice from walkways using snow shovels and/or snow blowers.
Requirements:
  • Mixing and using cleaning products and related chemicals.
  • Operating various types of electric commercial floor vacuums, strippers, and buffers.
  • Listening and communicating in a tactful manner when dealing with customers.
  • Climbing ladders to change burned-out ceiling light bulbs.
  • Driving a vehicle.
Working Conditions:
  • Strength, mobility, and stamina to work on feet throughout a shift performing physical labor, and to lift, carry, operate, and maneuver janitorial equipment, supplies, and waste containers weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand and power cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Vision sufficient to monitor work progress.
  • Speech and hearing to receive and relay basic instructions.
